A Murder of Crows!

A Murder of Crows box content, 32mm fantasy Iron Crow Dwarf miniatures and Crows Familiars, by Durgin Paint Forge, 3d render

6,900 parts.

Those are the numbers needed to put together the 100 Iron Crows boxes that will be available on this store from October 27.

Maybe I went too far. In fact, I definitely went too far, and I suspect that over in Madrid, at the headquarters of the resin craftsmen of Valquiria Studio, they have coined entirely new curses dedicated to me and my ancestors.

But can you blame me? How are you supposed to say enough when there are so many Dwarves involved?

But let us go in order.

In January of this year, I decided to step on the accelerator with my personal project, Peoples of Inneath, taking advantage of a decidedly stressful and emotionally demanding situation (GRX leaving the scene, the still ongoing disaster of The Orcs of Inneath campaign, and the difficulty of bringing a good number of the kits made over the past years back into stock) to wipe the slate clean and begin a complete overhaul of the entire range with one single goal: to publish the starter set for my first skirmish game by autumn 2027.

Naturally, the first piece of this (hopefully...) rebirth could only be them, my beloved Iron Crows: the first, the favorites, the invincible Iron Crows.

So I selected my favorite components from the first digital kits released on Patreon, with the idea of creating a new type of product, a small market test, let us say, built around one question: can the individual personality of a sculpt be preserved within a multipart kit?

The honor (and burden) of answering that question is, of course, yours!

And that is, quite simply, how A Murder of Crows was born, the exclusive box that will make its debut here in less than a week.

I have already shown you the individual kits included in it, but this morning I carved out a couple of hours to assemble a few models and give you a more tangible look at them (well, perhaps "let you see them with your own eyes" would be more accurate).

Do you remember the scene in DBZ, during the Majin Buu saga, when Goku shows the wizard Bibidi the various Super Saiyan transformations? Well, my approach to these kits was somewhat similar.

For example, these are three models built from the Sharpest Blades kit:

and these are also three models built from the Sharpest Blades kit:

....and these are also three models built from the Sharpest Blades kit:

These are two models built from the Mighty Axes kit:

And these are also two models built from the Mighty Axes kit:

And what happens if we decide to combine these two kits? This can happen (and much more besides!):

..a glorious celebration of Dwarfyness!

Now, I know perfectly well that I did not invent the concept of the modular kit.

People have been doing this sort of thing since Odin invented our hobby, but for a tiny company like Durgin Paint Forge, with the resources we have available, I consider it a small miracle of miniature engineering. I can assure you that managing such a vast number of individual components, making sure they fit together as well as possible while keeping compromises to a minimum in terms of the personality and individuality of each assembled model, was anything but easy.

And for anyone familiar with resin casting, you will already know that handling such a huge number of tiny components to cast while maintaining a high level of quality is just as complicated.

In my opinion, the result speaks for itself.

And I am not saying that just because I hope you will buy A Murder of Crows in droves (please do!), but because I genuinely believe you are going to have a lot of fun with it.

There will be time to reveal more details about this box, but for now I will leave you with the photos of the models, beautifully cast by Valquiria (to whom I renew my apologies for dragging them into such madness!).

And if you hear a little voice whispering in your ear, "buy them... buy them.....", indulge it. You never know, it might be some capricious deity. Better to keep it happy.

If you have already subscribed to the newsletters, you are already on Santa's nice list. If you have not, and you do not want to risk missing out on one of the hundred boxes ready to ship, I strongly recommend taking a look at the newly revamped homepage of the website and signing up.

Bona!
