Peoples of Inneath Beta Is Here: Help Shape the Game

Here we are!

I still cannot say whether this will turn out to be a textbook case of “the mountain giving birth to a mouse,” but for now I intend to enjoy that peculiar little thrill somewhere between excitement and sheer terror that accompanies every genuinely important step.

As of today, at least if you are subscribed to my Patreon, you can download the Peoples of Inneath Beta Rulebook and help me develop this project until it becomes the next big thing on hobby shelves.

Well, that is the plan, anyway.

Before you reach for the pitchforks and start shouting “BETRAYAL! BETRAYAL!”, allow me to explain.

From the very beginning, I have always said that the rules for my game will eventually be available free to everyone, and that has absolutely not changed.

Right now, however, I need to keep the initial pool of testers relatively small and limited to people who are already actively involved in my projects. There are two main reasons for this.

First, I want to avoid receiving such a vast and scattered amount of feedback that it becomes impossible to monitor properly. Please remember that my neurons are doing their best, and none of them is getting any younger.

Second, even though we are now entering what I suppose could be called an early stage of advanced development (apologies for the contradiction). I think it is wiser to keep any major rough edges within a smaller circle for the time being. That way I can study them carefully, correct them, and generally avoid displaying every structural wobble in the town square before I have had the opportunity to tighten the bolts.

Naturally, I hope there will not be too many rough edges.

But I also have to be honest with myself and accept that, as more external eyes begin reading, testing, and judging this first incarnation of the rules, there will inevitably be plenty of work still to do.

And that, after all, is precisely what a Beta is for.

Even though this is still a Beta version of the rulebook, I wanted it to feel at least somewhat polished, not only mechanically, but also in terms of presentation and narrative flavour.

There will be a time when we dive properly into the lore of Inneath, and yes, I should warn you now, there will be a few retcons along the way. For the moment, though, I wanted these first readers to have the chance to step into the setting and get a sense not only of how the game plays, but also of the lighthearted, heroic spirit that I hope will make Peoples of Inneath feel different from other skirmish games.

And I do hope I am not the only one here who grew up with Terry Pratchett books close at hand.

If you are curious to take part in the Beta testing, I warmly invite you to join my Patreon. For €10 per month, you can step behind the curtain, follow the development of the game from the inside, and get access to every new release in advance. On top of that, you will receive at least one new digital miniature kit every month, ready to print and enjoy.

This month, incidentally, there will be two.

This is a very big step for me personally, and for a project that has been following me for almost an entire lifetime.

I have no idea where this rulebook will eventually lead me, but I am quite certain of one thing:

it will be an excellent excuse to create many new fantastic miniatures!
